RECALL

In Stella's six months of life she has encountered three serious baby product recalls. We don't have rooms of toys or excess. We have a small 900 sq. foot apartment, not a lot of room to spoil our child rotten.

The first recall came before she was born. We found out that our crib that we had bought her was recalled because some people weren't putting it together correctly causing babies to die in the matress crib gulf. Fortunately, we put it together okay and she is not at risk. Still a close call that I am not comfortable with.

The second recall was last week. I had bought a Baby Einstein photo book for Stella. I put pictures of me and Seth and her grandparents. I found out a week later that it was toxic. She had been sucking on it for a week.

The final recall was the most frightening. I was over at a friend's house. She had this awesome Graco Baby Einstein activity center that she had gotten used. Now, to properly tell you this story you need to know that this friend is very meticulous and methodical about her baby's safety and researches EVERYTHING before she purchases. Way beyond the average mother. She had researched this product before she bought it and it was fine as far as she could tell. We happily placed Stella in the activity center, she loved it, until she stopped breathing. She was choking on something, we didn't know what. Immediately the roughly researched baby choking steps were attempted. After a few seconds she threw up what appeared to be plastic. The plastic sewn into the blocks had disinigrated and she was able to peel it off and choke. Everyone was really upset. We called the company to report it, apparently it had been recalled but named "SOFT BLOCK TOWER" instead of "GRACO ACTIVITY CENTER." I felt pretty powerless. Since this time I have been emailing craigslist people who sell this informing them of the recall. I don't know what else to do.

Stella's Screen Test

Stella now kisses on command, which means she is ready for her first romantic comedy. Perhaps a pairing with Tom Hanks. She's a baby. He's a man. She's afraid of him, and he can't stand the diapers. But there's one thing they both can't get away from: each other. Coming in May, its "Baby I Love You Too!"
